Our Story

At Nectar and Roots, we believe in the power of natural ingredients that are sustainable and heal the skin  

Our journey began with finding a natural alternative to healing my skin after extensive cancer surgery. It was my sole intention to develop a formula that would heal my surgical incisions quicker and naturally. Together with my oncologist's blessing, I developed an amazing salve with the main ingredient being Manuka Honey. I was amazed that it worked for me better than over the counter creams and prescriptions and much quicker.  The feeling of healing myself with nature and not with prescriptions was fascinating for me.  I wanted to learn everything I  could about natural healing, thus the journey began.

I have struggled with problematic and sensitive skin all my life.  I have very pale skin and usually burn to a crisp weather I have on sun screen or not. I simply can‘t be in the sun for a log period of time anymore. 

Back in my younger years there was not a big emphasis on skin care or protecting your skin from the affects of the sun. Most of my friends where laying out and using vegetable oil to tan with. I was not!! However, I didn't use sunscreen consistently. I lived my childhood days outside most of the time, playing for hours on end in the creek behind my childhood home and spending way too much time at the barn with my horse. The most memorable times are those spent collecting rocks to paint faces on and gathering all of the new plant leaves I wanted to research. Back then, there was no internet to do research so, I would visit our local library frequently scouring all the books I could on botanicals and herbal benefits.  The Dandelion is by far my most valued beneficial botanical.

 As far as a daily facial care routine, I didn't have much of one and my face as an adult was red, swollen and inflamed. I have tried all the things prescribed and recommended over the counter products as well but they seemed to make it worse. 

I wanted to be able to feel confident in my skin and have it healthy. I’m not one to wear a lot of make up so covering up the redness and inflammation was a chore I would rater not do much of anymore, Healing my skin and preventing further risk of skin cancer, was a motivation for me. Over the past 4 years I have worked diligently to find a solution that worked for our specific needs as well as close friends and family. I am at the point where I am confident in my skin. I love my skin and the products we are developing. There was only one element missing and that was sharing these amazing natural products and this healing journey with others that may benefit.
